The men's 3rd team match against Hunts County was a highly competitive affair. Reka played at 5 against Ian Gabriel, a player I remembered being very strong for that position. Gabby won the first two games but go a bit tired and Reka squeezed out a fairly easy win in the third and a much closer one int the fourth game as well against an opponent who by that time looked spent. He found a second wind in the fifth, though, and took it comfortably. Paul played his former nemesis at 4: Ed Lewis. They had played a number of times before and the match had always followed the same pattern: Ed lobs, Paul misses. This time, Paul missed less and, despite trying very hard to ignore Gordon's advice to play the ball to the back, he won 3-0. Mark played at 3 against a game opponent who tried very hard, but who was ultimately overpowered by Kerr-handed African aggression. Sanjay's match at 2 was a brutal affair. His opponent was very fit and mobile and it was not clear how to get points off him. The match was tight up to the end of the 4th game, where Sanjay saved a number of match points to reach 2-all, but he was knackered in the fifth and went down 3-2. Gordon came up against Andy Budd at first string, and quickly went 2-0 up with a combination of good squash and Buddy missing. In the next two games the roles were reversed, bringing the match down right to the wire. The squash was good in the fifth game, but Buddy came out the winner. Curiously, this match produced the closest score possible: 14-12 to Hunts.
