Firstly many thanks for everyone’s replies and in a lot of cases detailed comments and messages, this was all very helpful and allows us to shape the next chapter of Cambridge Squash Club.
One of the key messages we got through was a disappointment in the Universities approach towards the club and that members feel that it is important for us to maintain the integrity of the club at a venue that will work with us to continue the great atmosphere and events the club provides. It is worth noting we asked the University Sports Centre management 3 times for a constructive meeting to discuss the results of the survey and they have declined to respond.
Based on the results of the survey (in full at the end of the email) the overwhelming majority of people voted to move the base of the club to Swavesey. We are very happy to say we have finalised our agreement with Swavesey that allows us to integrate with them and continue all the great things we do, this includes:
Membership at Swavesey Squash Club starts at £17 a month which includes unlimited access and no court light fees, access to club nights and much much more.
Great, what do I need to do?
About Swavesey Squash Club
Swavesey Squash Club is a three-court club which has been fully refurbished in the last 6 months, with every court redone, a brand-new heating system installed, new showers and plumbing installed, and a fantastic social area, made possible by the dedication and hard work of the committee there. If you visited when the club was called Fenland Squash Club, you will be shocked by the complete transformation, with the club now an attractive and modern venue. The club is a members’ club, run entirely for the benefit of the members on a not-for-profit basis by its volunteer committee. In many ways, it feels similar to how Cambridge Squash Club felt when it was at Histon Rd. It also has a huge amount of free parking. At Swavesey, you will find an active and welcoming club, with over 130 members, many of whom will be familiar faces, including many Cambridge Squash Club members who moved during the pandemic.
The address is: Swavesey Squash Club, Swavesey Village College, Gibraltar Lane, Swavesey, CB24 4RS.
Cambridge Squash Club is the biggest and most comprehensive squash club in the Cambridge area. We are a volunteer-run, not-for-profit community sports club dedicated to the promotion of Squash and Racketball.
